Our blood bank centrifuge Sigma 8KBS is now a medical device

The refrigerated floor-standing centrifuge has been specifically designed for use in blood banks and transfusion facilities and is now a medical device in the definition of regulation (EU) 2017/745, class IIa for the separation of blood components for transfusion medicine. 

With a maximum capacity of 12 blood bag systems per run, even large sample volumes can be processed efficiently. Thanks to very smooth running, the device reliably delivers excellent, reproducible sedimentation results.

In addition to its outstanding performance data, the Sigma 8KBS impresses with its impressive energy efficiency and perfectly matched components. The intuitive operation and the ergonomic loading height of only 88 cm facilitate daily work in the laboratory and make the Sigma 8KBS one of the most popular blood bank centrifuges on the market.

The F.A.Z. Institute – a subsidiary of the renowned "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" newspaper – has once again awarded us the "Germany's Innovation Leader" certificate. For the third time in a row, we have been included in the list of top companies with innovative strength.

For the "Germany's Innovation Leader" study, the patent applications of companies operating in Germany were analyzed. Not only was the number of patents evaluated, but also their relevance. Our company belongs to the top group of innovative companies in Germany. We are pleased about the award and very proud.

Martin Christ Sr. founded the company 75 years ago. His two sons, Michael and Martin Christ, followed their father into management in the 1970s and successfully led the business units into the future. In recent years, our group of companies has grown continuously. Today, our family business has around 300 employees. With Malte Christ, the third generation of the shareholder family joined the family business in 2015. Since September of this year, he has represented both companies equally as Managing Director, taking over from his father Martin Christ on the Board of Management. Martin Christ continues to be involved in the advisory board.

Anniversary celebration
Celebrating is also a tradition with us. So the anniversary was of course celebrated appropriately. The 75th anniversary celebration took place on our company premises. All employees were invited to a big fair with great food stands, climbing wall, bull riding and many other attractions.

To save energy and costs, the refrigerated centrifuge has the ECO mode feature. After an individually adjustable time, the centrifuge automatically switches to standby mode when not in use. This is not only energy-efficient but also improves the working atmosphere in the laboratory by significantly reducing the noise level by switching off the cooling. 

Long-term safe operation with Sigma Comfort coating

Thanks to the new Sigma Comfort coating, Sigma Comfort rotors no longer need to be greased. The rotor and buckets will comfortably operate together for several years – with no need for regular greasing. For typical applications in normal labs, the Sigma Comfort coating will last for up to 5 years.

Our new canteen in the new company building has opened. With rooftop view we now have a restaurant in which we can spend our lunch breaks. In a great atmosphere with delicious, freshly prepared dishes.

Small, quiet and powerful – those are the hallmarks of the Sigma 1-7. This new small centrifuge is excellently suited to the separation of up to 6 blood or urine samples. The compact size makes it ideal for medical practices, veterinarians and small laboratories. It can also be put to good use for environmental analysis and in various educational institutions, such as schools or universities.

The laboratory centrifuge Sigma 1-7 features a high RCF level of up to 6.153 x g as well as sturdy, high-quality finishing.

The Sigma 2-7 arose from the experiences and desires of our customers. The technical features of this centrifuge are impressive: stainless steel bowl, imbalance switch, motorised lid lock, innovative run display with blue LEDs, and process reliability. The centrifuge is also very quiet in operation. Specimens are only slightly warmed, which is important for blood specimen tubes in particular. Together with a versatile, modular swing-out rotor, the foundation is laid for a successful career in many laboratories.

The refrigerated centrifuge Sigma 4-5KRL has specifically been developed for system integration and can be easily integrated into any workflow. Thanks to a lid opening time of only 3 seconds and high-precision positioning of rotor and buckets, this particularly smooth centrifuge is a reliable tool offering 24/7 availability. 

This robust device is very undemanding and gets by with only one service interval per year. Tubes, for which Sigma manufactures customized adapters upon request, as well as microtiter plates can be centrifuged with the Sigma 4-5KRL.
